1.)Published in 1915 by Arthur Rothstein.
2.) This picture is being shown at corners of indoors and out. It is during the day. And to me i would say that there in the rural area because of the straw hat the older man has on. It is in Dalas-County.
3.) There are 2 people in this picture, both males. The farther one would probablly be around the age of 55-60, and the boy looks like he's in his teens. Their clothes are ripped up and torn apart. Very dirty, and they probablly were them 24-7. The most intriguing thing that caught my eye first was the bed outside of the house. How could somebody sleep outdoors, in the cold, and at night. I give these people tons of credit.
4.) This is a home and the style of the home is like a cabin. It's made out of wood, but the slabs are very skinny, and they don't look seal tight. All around them looks like a sandy dessert, and there in the middle of nowhere. The houses condition looks like the house could fall if the big bad wolf came down and blew on it.
5.) The tone of this picture, to me, shows a negative attraction.
6.) This tone of the picture is negative because, it shows 2 people greiving, and suffering for someone to spread some light on them, and offer them some help. The people here most likely don't gaet much food, and they don't have good shelter. The house is put together very poorly, their bed is outside, it gets really cold at night.
7.) Why would you take this picture? Did you want to show everyone around America how their suffering, or did you want to show America what the great depression has done to us?

1.) Jack Delano 1939. Little African-American boy at a cottage wheeling a bucket of water.
2.) This picture is indoors and it is during the day because of the shadows behind the objects. It is in a rural area.
3.) There is only one boy, black, and he's about 10-12 years old. Hes wearing overalls because he probablly doesn't have any pants. His under shirt is white but it's practically brown. It is very dirty because he weres it most of the week. The thing that caught my eye first was the dead trees in the background. It is in the middle of summer and there trees are dead. The people aren't getting any rain, and on top of that there in the era of the great depression.
4.) The housing in the background looks very shabby, and not very useful. As you can see on the right the fence is completely messed up. One picket is higher than the other, and they aren't right next to eachother. They have gaps.
5.) The tone of this picture is negative.
6.) This picture is negative because it shows a hard working boy who can't live without poverty. This depression has made his life miserable. His face is very upset, and he looks like he's about to take that water and chuck as far as he can. He doesn't deserve this, he works hard and comes home to a cruddy place. The house could be knocked over by a srtong wind. At night it gets very cold, so he probablly shares a blanket with somebody, and that blanket is thin. Also there's nobody to play with because he's in a rural area, I feel 100% bad for this child.
7.) How many members are in his family? Does he have siblings to keep him company? How does his family make ends meet, and do they have enough to eat?
1.) Evans Walker 1936. Women in her cotton field home.
2.) This picture was taken indoors, and the only lighting I see is a candle in the back, but it's very little. I would say that she lives in a rural area in Mississippi, because she is a cotton hoer.
3.)There is only one black women, and she is 57. Her clothing isn't as disgusting as the other pictures, but that one white shirt isn't very sturdy. It's practically a sheet of paper. The thing that caught my eye first was the womens face. She is in agonizing pain, and shes praying and calling for help with the saddest look on her face.
4.) Her home is very poor. It is made out of wood which allows breezes to come through which is a harsh factor during the winter season. The only thing I can spot out around her is a wooden chair. That wooden chair could be the only thing furniture she has other than her bed.
5.) The tone is negative in this picture.
6.) This tone is negative because this women is crying for help and someone is taking a picture of her. She is grieving and calling for help from someone, ( desperately), with the saddest face I have ever seen in my life. The great depression really had an affect on these people because first of all they were already going through prejudice, going to seperate facilities, and all of a sudden things got wourse for them. They're making peanuts to survive and their stomachs are probablly going nuts. On top of that, this women is 57 years old, doing farm work thats hard for younger people. I give her lots of credit for doing that because that shows lots of character.
7.) Would you ever go down to where these people are living and give them supplies, such as foods, shelter, and water? Do you ever feel guilty about taking these pictures of these grieving and suffering people?

1.) Published by Alex White in October of 1937.
2.) The setting is outside and it is during the day. The spacing is wide and they live in a rural area.
3.) There is one man and one women. They have farm clothes on: straw hat, overalls. The thing that caught my eye first was their body expression when they see that there isn't any produce growing for them.
4.) There home is decent yet they live on their produce and it really hasn't done well for them. The condition actually looks pretty good. It isnt a shack.
5.) The tone is dark in this picture.
6.) I say that because it's showing to people trying to do what ever they can to support their family. It seems like they don't have many neighbors, so that can be upsetting at times with the lack of companionship. It also shows how upset they are, they look like the human race is over and they can do nothing about it.
7.) If these people don't make ends meet how will they survive, and support their family? Where will they go? Would they rely on Wel-Fair?
Image, Source: intermediary roll film
1.) This picture was taken by Alfred T. Palmer in 1940. It was taken in a steel-heating operation in Brooklyn, New York.
2.) There is 3 men in this picture, and it is indoors. It is in an urban area, (New York), and it is during 9:00-9:30.
3.) There is only 3 men in here and they are men. He works with steel, so he wears protective clothes from the sparks and heat. The one thing that caught my eye first was when the man looked like he was about to have a heart attack from those sparks. This place is very unprotective.
4.) The building he is in is very unprotective and it can be very dangerous to be working with hot steel, and sparks flying at your face burning you. The spacing in there looks very tight, so if you have caustrophobia you are in deep trouble.
5.) The theme of this picture is negative.
6.) It is negative because the man has sparks flying at him and he has nothing to cover his face. He could get his eye burned. It also shows how a man has to go this far to just make a living, and survive during this depression. I honor this man, no question, but I also feel nervous for him. He could get hurt just by a little careless mistake. What if he slipped on some liquid steel on he puts his hand out on that steel and his hand burns. It looks like those sparks just missed him and he dodged them.
7.) What is the rule if you miss a day of work? What would happen if you got sick and you couldn't work?

1.) Picture taken by John Vachon in Whitte Butte, South Dakota in Feb. of 1942.
2.) It is outside and during the day, the spacing is extremely wide, and it is in a rural area.
3.) There are no people in this picture. The first thing that caught my eye was how desserted this place was. The malibox has seen better days, and the town over is a ghost town. The great depression destroyed towns, made people leave because they couldn't find work.
4.) There isn't a house nor building, and the spacing is huge since it is a ghost town.
5.) The theme of this picture is both dark and negative.
7.) How did you feel, what was going through your head when you took thid picture? Why did you take a picture of a ghost town?

The setting of this photograph is outside during the day. The lighting is very dark and it is a couldy day. It is a very urban area because the building looks like a shack. It was probably taken sometime in the afternoon. There are no people in this picture and the place looks very deserted. The store looks very beat down. The roof looks like it is about to cave in. It is also very small. The lonely little store catches my because it is so deserted. The store seems like a small bussiness. It is not in good condition. It looks to be very isolated. There is a fence on one side of the building and open space on the pther side. The one of this picture is very dark and gloomy. It looks very negative, it is probably not a place you would want to work. It does not look like you would earn a lot of money because of the state it is in. If I could talk to the photographer about this picture I would ask him where and when the picture was taken. I would also ask him what the people who worked at the store were like. - Becky P

The setting of this photograph is outdoors. The place is very urban. It looks to be midafternoon. There are 10 people in the photograph. They all look around age 30 and up. They all seem to have decent clothing. The distinguishing feature in this picture is the car. I am surprised people could afford money for gas. The thing that cathes my attention is all the clothing outside of the store. It surprised me because someone could easily steal it. Compared to the first picture the store looks a little better. The store seems to be in better condition. People actually seem to be buying from it. The store is very close to other stores and homes. This picture looks more positive then the first one. Bussiness seems to be going better for this store. It seems to be a brighter picture as well. I would ask the photographer is the bussniess was more successful then others. I would also ask the photographer where the picture was taken. - Becky P
